Pest-Bor Remedial Borer & Timber Treatment
Pest-Bor is a professional timber treatment designed for the control of common wood-boring insects and selected termite species in dry, accessible timber. It can be used as part of a remedial treatment programme for existing borer activity and for the protection of susceptible timber.
Target Pests
Pest-Bor may be used for the control of wood-boring insects including:
- Anobium
- Hadrobregmus
- Leanobium
- Ambeodontus
- Termites including Kalotermes brouni
Remedial Treatment Mixing Rate
For remedial borer and wood-boring insect treatment:
Mix 10 kg of Pest-Bor with 100 litres of warm water.
Apply approximately:
25 litres of mixed solution per 100 m² of dry timber surface, per coat.
Application Method
Apply two thorough coats, allowing at least 1 hour between applications.
All accessible, untreated timber surfaces should be evenly and thoroughly wetted with the treatment solution to allow the borate active ingredients to penetrate and diffuse into the wood.
For best penetration, timber and surrounding temperatures should preferably be above 13°C.
Important Application Conditions
Pest-Bor should be applied directly to clean, dry and absorbent timber.
Do not apply Pest-Bor directly over:
- Paint
- Varnish
- Lacquer
- Existing sealants
- Other coatings that prevent penetration
Surface-applied borate treatments cannot effectively penetrate through painted or sealed timber.
Timber exposed to ongoing dampness, water seepage or excessive moisture should first have the moisture problem addressed. Where appropriate, a compatible protective sealant such as HomeSafe - CopperTreat may be considered.
Very Dry Timber
If the timber moisture content is below approximately 10%, penetration may be improved by lightly pre-wetting the timber before applying the Pest-Bor solution.
Depending on the timber condition and application requirements, alternative products such as HomeSafe Protectimber or TimberFrame Defender may also be suitable.
For internal or difficult-to-treat areas, products such as HomeSafe Rot Stop Paste or Industrial Timber Protector may be considered as part of the overall timber treatment programme.
How Long Does Borer Treatment Take to Work?
Borer larvae can remain deep inside timber for a considerable period before emerging as adult beetles.
For this reason, new exit holes may still appear following treatment, and a noticeable reduction in borer activity may take up to approximately nine months.
This does not necessarily mean that the treatment has failed. Borate treatments work as insects feed within treated timber and as the active ingredient penetrates further into the wood.
Industrial Timber Preservation
Pest-Bor can also be used for industrial timber preservation applications.
Depending on the timber species, treatment method and required protection level, Pest-Bor may be prepared as a water-based solution at concentrations ranging from approximately 0.5% to 40%.
